Common Questions
Start with the honest answers
The Warrior Collective exists so no recruit has to face the biggest decision of their life guessing. It is the whole map from "thinking about the military" to ship day: the 7 phases, The Dispatch newsletter, the Before Basic Training podcast, three apps and a community on the same road. Built by people who learned it the hard way, so you don't have to.
Phase 1: Start Here covers who can join and why you want to. Phase 2: Choosing Your Branch compares every branch side by side. Phase 3: Recruiter Prep covers the questions, papers and forms. Phase 4: ASVAB Prep covers the test and a study plan. Phase 5: MEPS Prep covers the physical and the paperwork day. Phase 6: Fitness and Mindset covers the fitness test and the goodbye. Phase 7: Preparing to Ship covers the wait and ship day. Every term is explained inside its phase.
Compare the branches honestly: Army offers the widest job options (150+ MOS, 10-week BCT). Navy is technical and travel-heavy (9 weeks of RTC training plus in-processing). Marine Corps recruit training is 13 weeks and identity-driven. Air Force BMT is 7.5 weeks; its AFQT minimum is 31 with a high school diploma or 50 with a GED. Coast Guard basic is 8 weeks and its AFQT minimum is 32. Guard and Reserve let you serve while keeping civilian roots.
Spend 8–12 weeks studying 30–45 minutes a day, starting with a diagnostic practice test. Free, official prep is available at official.asvab.com, march2success.com, and Khan Academy (which fully covers the math sections). Phase 4: ASVAB Prep on this site walks through the four AFQT subtests, branch minimum scores, line scores, and the retest policy.
