A military family panel wants cheaper tolls for troops driving to base

A commission on military family life suggested cutting tolls for service members who commute to base. Toll roads are run by states, so nothing changes unless each state agrees.

The Army's new campus-style dining halls are packed, and takeout is now on an app

Four posts (Fort Hood, Fort Carson, Fort Drum and Fort Bragg) now run dining halls with longer hours, more food choices and free Wi-Fi, and far more soldiers are eating there than at the old chow halls. Since Oct. 1, soldiers at those halls can also order takeout from a phone app.

Why it matters to you PARENTS

Basic training food is still the standard chow hall, on a schedule. This is what comes after, at a first duty station, and a sign the Army is putting real money into daily life for junior soldiers.
