The Army wants to cut the wait between basic training and your job school

Army personnel leaders say they are linking recruiting, basic training and job school into one scheduling system, so a new soldier leaving basic gets the next open class instead of waiting for weeks. The Army calls it People Supply Chain Management, it covers more than 200 jobs, and it is still early, so no one is promising shorter waits yet.

Why it matters to you IN DEP

Your ship date and job school date come out of a system like this. Ask your recruiter what happens between basic and AIT for your MOS, plan for the long version, and be glad if it's short.

The Pentagon is building an expert council on sleep, nutrition and injury prevention

A notice published Tuesday sets up the Advisory Council on Health and Human Performance Optimization: up to 20 outside experts in sleep medicine, nutrition, sports medicine, brain health and wearable tech. They will advise the Pentagon on keeping troops healthy and performing well.

Why it matters to you JUST THINKING

The military treats sleep, food and staying injury-free as readiness, not extras. If you're months away from talking to a recruiter, those three habits are the cheapest head start you can get.

The Navy is offering a stay-in bonus to its bomb-disposal officers

The Navy announced a retention bonus for explosive ordnance disposal officers with six or more years in, tied to a multi-year contract and a training qualification. It is for officers only, not new sailors.

Why it matters to you TALKED TO A RECRUITER

Every bonus works like this one: a contract with conditions attached, like years, a job and a qualification. If a recruiter mentions a bonus, get the conditions in writing before you sign.
